Ektron adding a widget to the smart desktop (admin desktop)

To get a widget added to the smart desktop (aka the admin desktop) of an Ektron web site, you must follow different steps than adding a normal widget which can be added to pages.
  1. Create a widget and save it under /Workarea/Widgets/
  2. In the workarea, navigate to Settings > Configuration > Personalizations > Widgets and click on "Synchronize widgets from /widgets/ folder". This is a misleading button naming, but also syncs the workarea (admin) widgets.
  3. In the workarea navigate to Settings > Configuration > Personalizations > Widget Space and select the "UserSmartDesktop" widget space, here you can select which widgets can be added to the smart desktop.
  4. Now you can go to the "Desktop" tab in the workarea and add the widget to the smart desktop.
